About Me
I’ve spent the past six years deeply involved in the inner workings of several nascent cannabis businesses. I started via a genuinely unique opportunity in 2014 transitioning from managing the shoreside and shipboard (21 ships) desktop infrastructure team at Holland America Cruise Line in Seattle to the first CEO of a newly successful extracts and edibles company in Bend, Oregon called Lunchbox Alchemy. While at “Lunchbox”, I developed means and methods that were not really available in the (then) very young industry to build a team, expand our product line, and distribute those products to over 400 retail stores. It all boiled down to the people and culture we built together. Without the positively once-in-a-lifetime energy that all of us felt in those early days, I don’t know if I would be still in this business. I’ve succeeded often and failed just enough to become quite intimate with both my strengths and weaknesses alike.
I left Lunchbox in late 2015 to bring my background in technical, business, supply chain, CPG, and inventory management to a broader audience. Companies were spinning up everywhere and many quickly found me to help them organize thoughts and execute ideas. And so I did for the better part of 2016. In parallel, I also took on a full-time role with a company developing a tabletop device capable of blending oils at microliter levels using a smartphone controller! I spearheaded national supply chain efforts and left them with a huge Rolodex of suppliers to choose from when the industrial engineering caught up. They are getting really close!
Halfway through my cannabis journey, I found myself with even more extensive operational experience, templates, scientific training, platform vetting, contract development, financial management, and a production management portfolio that I’m extremely proud of and continue to build upon to this day.
For the past eighteen months, I’ve been quite fortunate to bring my skills to Flourish Software, a cannabis SaaS seed-to-sale platform, as the VP of Client Services. Building on the success of founders and early team members, I expanded the team into process-driven implementation, support, documentation, and training experts by clearly measurable factors. Recently, however, the general difficulty of expanding a cannabis business coupled with difficult investment timing at the outset of COVID-19 brought my vision for this exceptional team to a screeching halt. Half the company was furloughed on April 1 and only now are a few being re-hired. As has been the case with almost every one of my roles in the cannabis industry, I’ve been instrumental in accelerating growth, building strong teams, developing and executing tight process-driven operations, and helping to position the company for investment opportunities based on the above successes. But, inevitably it seems, the time needed to close investments takes quite a bit longer than it should and scaling back is the only prudent thing to do. Unsee less
