Creating educational and training opportunities for brands, healthcare institutions, policymakers and the public though consulting, curriculum and media. Nine-year industry veteran with over 16,000 hours of experience guiding and educating consumers about cannabis; consults on buying trends and demands for businesses and brands, product development and marketing with an eye towards capturing the consumers imagination, providing solutions, and creating fulfilling consumer scenarios.
Sara Payan is the Public Education Officer for the Apothecarium in San Francisco, Vice Chair of the San Francisco Bay Area Americans for Safe Access Chapter, Seat 16 of the San Francisco Cannabis Oversight Committee, and for three years (2016-2018) was vice-chair of the San Francisco Cannabis State Legalization Task Force. Sara has had the honor of speaking at such events as the New West Summit, Meadowlands, Ignite: Young Women Run, Patients Out of Time, Blunt Talks, Women Grow and The Women's Visionary Congress and the Arkansas Cannabis Industry Association. She is also the host of the Planted podcast, which debuted May 2019 on the Radio Misfits Podcast Network.
With over 16,000 hours of hands-on experiential medical cannabis patient research, Sara has consulted with large healthcare organizations such as Kaiser and UCSF. She has lead large-scale industry training and lectures nationwide, including continuing education credit classes at accredited schools for healthcare practitioners through her private practice. Sara created some of the first-to-market cannabis curriculum — the first cannabis education workshop series for City College of San Francisco’s Continuing Education program, and a lecture series at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.
Her experience as a stage III colon cancer survivor, and her civil rights background fueled her passion for about creating safe access to cannabis through education and creating compassion programs to provide free cannabis for the critically and chronically ill with low income.
Sara was named one of the 100+ most important women in cannabis for 2019 and 2020 by the Green Market Report. Her work has been highlighted in MJ Lifestyle Magazine, California Leaf, San Francisco Chronicle, Cannabis Now, and in Damian Marley’s “Medication” series. She has been quoted in mainstream lifestyle publications such as Self Magazine.
